Vanity Metrics

Are Distracting

The last 2 weeks I’ve written about my top performing posts on LinkedIn in 2024 in terms of views.

BUT here’s the thing - views are merely vanity metrics that stroke my ego. I've had LinkedIn posts with over 1 million views that have led to no business and 0 DMs.

I've had other posts with 500 views that have led to a deal.

If just one revenue leader identifies with a problem in my content, then it's worth posting, so I focus on meaningful engagement VS vanity metrics.

There's nothing wrong with a family or dog post. But if that's all you're posting, you're unlikely to ever generate inbound leads off social media.

A better LinkedIn metric to focus on is profile views. I know if someone clicks on my profile, then:

  • The post resonated with them enough to check out my profile

  • They’ll see my profile that has our case studies and website
