Deadlines

and Trust

90% of people I’ve worked with over the years overpromise and underdeliver.

Now when I speak to younger folk at the start of their careers, I mention 3 essentials:

  1. Always meet deadlines

  2. Always stay true to your word

  3. Communicate when you can't

My 15 years in the corporate world confirmed this over and over.

When you miss a deadline, subconsciously you're telling your client or boss:

"I'm a liar and can't be trusted."

The employees and freelancers I've worked with again and again never make excuses.

They get shit done.

Now of course life happens (family bereavements, illnesses, client obstacles).

But in the rare instances when you can't meet deadlines, always communicate to those affected.

Get shit done and keep people up to date.

Cheers,
