body language

Body language is much more difficult to read when you’re selling through a screen.

So here's 1 super simple tip for your demos, which is powerful when you're demoing with multiple people.

If you're leading the call, have a colleague sit in the background and read everyone's body language.

With face to face it's easy to feel emotions. But demoing with 5 people on a call, it's almost impossible.

You’re sharing screen, focusing on what to show and trying to listen.

So have your colleague look at their body langauge:

  • The head nods or shakes

  • The eyebrow raises

  • The confused looks

  • The smiles

  • The frowns

This is all basic 101 communication in person but becomes difficult online.

Mike Sanchez helps me with this and it has been so powerful. If he notices someone is not engaged, he'll throw them a question:

"Janet, what are your thoughts on what Mikey showed here?"

At the end of the call, we always have a 5 minute chat, and I'm often surprised.

Someone who I thought was "just quiet", was either nodding their head enthusiastically or was totally unengaged and could be a detractor.

So it's a massive help with your multithreading strategy.

Give it a try.

Cheers,
